Phone instrument

Compass & clino

A magnetic compass and a clinometer that run on your phone’s sensors. Lay the phone flat on a surface to read the slope and cross-fall.

Open this on your phoneScan the code or go to australiansurveyequipment.com/compass-clino/ — the sensors only work on a phone or tablet.

Compass

Hold the phone flat. If the reading looks off, wave the phone in a figure-8 to calibrate it.

11.7° E is about right for Melbourne. Change it for other areas.

Clino

Lay the phone flat on the surface with the top of the phone pointing down the slope. Tap a reading to hold it.

Slope (long axis)—
Cross-fall (short axis)—

Zeroing cancels out your phone case or a slightly out-of-true phone. Good to about half a degree — handy for a quick check, not a substitute for a real level.
